Green Hydrogen from Ukraine for Europe
The international industry partnership H2EU+Store was founded by RAG Austria and Eco-Optima to plan a hydrogen economy along the entire value chain and to accelerate and ramp up the production of green hydrogen for Central Europe.
“H2EU+Store“ will on the one hand create the necessary capacities for renewable electricity and hydrogen production in Western Ukraine and on the other hand expand hydrogen storage volumes in Austria, in order to make hydrogen available to customers in Central Europe via pipelines.
"Hydrogen is undeniably the key to a cross-sector climate-neutral energy system. With the project 'H2EU+Store', we are making a significant contribution to the needed expansion of hydrogen use in Central Europe."

RAG Austria and Eco-Optima sign Memorandum of Understanding
In April 2025 on behalf of RAG Austria CEO Markus Mitteregger and Tatjana Weilert took part in a delegation trip to Ukraine, which was organized by the Federation of Austrian Industries of Lower Austria.
At a business forum held jointly with the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, four memorandums of understanding were signed between Austrian and Ukrainian partners, including the memorandum of understanding between RAG Austria and Eco-Optima on the H2EU+Store project.
Following the finalization of the feasibility study, the next steps for the implementation of the ramp-up of hydrogen production in Western Ukraine as well as for transport, storage and use in Central Europe were defined. Due to its proximity to Central Europe and the existing pipelines, the import route from Western Ukraine has great potential for the rapid, real implementation of green energy imports in the form of hydrogen.
"We as a company and Ukraine at large are able through our renewables and H2 infrastructure capabilities to play a significant role in Europe’s energy transition."

Start of the Project Initiative “H2EU+Store”
"H2EU+Store" is an international industry partnership founded by RAG Austria AG and Eco-Optima to accelerate the market ramp-up of green hydrogen in Central Europe.
The initiative is structured as an integrated project by looking at the entire value chain (from production, transport and storage and including the consumer market) of the future hydrogen market.
